Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

The clients I work with (disability in the community) are required to wait for long periods of time for essential equipment items and are provided with the absoloute bare minimum of care. Compare this level of support to clients who are covered by compensible bodies such as LIfetime Care and Support, TAC or Workers Compensation- the difference is appalling.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

-Equipments available when needed, -Better access to mainstream support and services, -Better access to education and work opportunities

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are: -Therapy and allied health services, -Equipment and home/vehicle modifications, -Accommodation options

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

The NDIS has the potential to make a positive impact on the lives of people living with a disability. This group of people in our community need support and services provided in a more positive way than the current system can provide. Each state running it’s own system further disables this community group depending on where they live. I believe the NDIS is the opportunity for postive change to be made- across the nation.
