Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

The paperwork which centrelink requires to be completed and submitted so regularly is time consuming and often embarrassing for the person being cared for especially when his or her circumstances will remain unchanged for the the rest of his/her life. Centrelink also loses paper work. This is so frustrating. The attitude of many doctors when asked to complete the doctors form (and we have been unable to make an appoint with our regular Dr) is demeaning and impersonal. They get sick of it to.

Main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• Ensure support and equipment is available when needed,
• More employment of people with disability and less reliance on social welfare,
• Older parents and families will not worry what happens when they can no longer provide support

Most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Employment support,
• Case management, planning and coordination,
• Crisis and emergency support

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

It gives carers and consumers a level of security which helps us all the feeling that we matter.
