Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

We tried to receive a disability pension for me but were refused as the government has calculated that we have too many assets that we have built over the years.There is no income from our assets and we cannot eat assets.You have to be near on destitute to receive any disability allowance

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• Ensure support and equipment is available when needed,
• Minimising the number of times people have to tell their story in order to get support,
• Access to reliable information about support options

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Therapy and allied health services,
• Support for families and carers,
• In-home care and domestic assistance

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

I dont know much about the NDIS but any assistance is helpful and shouldn’t be taken away from those that need support.
