ePlease consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
We have or NEVER had any funding though any government agency to help with my disabled child. My child has Williams Syndrome and she still needs help with PT, OT and speech and can’t access anything funding as she is 13…. We can’t even get respite!!! We can’t afford any of this so she misses out on everything…. It’s not fair at all that this happens and if she had help with these therapies there is a chance that she could get a basic job…
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
- Better access to mainstream support and services,
- More rights for people with a disability,
- Removal of age barriers to services for children
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
- Therapy and allied health services,
- Education support (technology/services/equipment),
- Flexible in-home/outside home respite,
- Positive behaviour support and psychological services
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
I am hoping at some stage that the NDIS will help my family… But has a long ime waiting as my daughter is now 13 and we have recieved NOTHING!!! Not even from DSQ
