ePlease consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.
nThe current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
ME/ CFS is excluded in QLD and I suffer from this debilitating condition to the point where I have had to give up work, have no social life and am totally reliant on my husband / children for care.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
- Ensure support and equipment is available when needed,
- Better access to mainstream support and services,
- Minimising the number of times people have to tell their story in order to get support
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
- Equipment and home/vehicle modifications,
- Recreation and community access,
- Flexible in-home/outside home respite
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
All my care and support is currently independently provided but this places a strain on my working husband and teenage children.
