Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
There are currently no services for the type of disability I live with as it is not yet recognised as a disability.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
- People with a disability can choose the types of support to use,
- Better access to mainstream support and services,
- More rights for people with a disability
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
- Therapy and allied health services,
- Employment support,
- In-home care and domestic assistance,
- Positive behaviour support and psychological services
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
- Services and funding are currently below the standard to enable a person living with disabilities to be self supporting.
- Many disabilities are not properly recognised or supported.
- Current emans tested carers allowance is well below living standards
