Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

Disability leaves individuals and families exposed to financial ruin and destitution if lacking resources to overcome the disability.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• Better access to mainstream support and services,
• More rights for people with a disability,
• People with a disability can plan their lives and pursue their goals and dreams

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Support for families and carers,
• Case management, planning and coordination,
• Positive behaviour support and psychological services

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

I support the NDIS as it will even the gulf in families with a member with a disability and those who have been lucky enough to not have a family member with a disablity. The NDIS will, we trust, enable financially disadvantaged individuals with a disability to have better access to all sorts of facilities and services which cannot be accessed presently

The NDIS will provide a level of services and facilities to disabled persons not currently available as growth of these services and facilities is enhanced by the whole community contributing to the cost, and more expert people are employed in these functions.

The NDIS, I hope, will provide a better outcome for ALL disabled persons whether born with the disability or acquiring it through disease or accident.
