Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

There is no effective financial support for equipment such as purchase of cars, wheelchairs, cushions and other equipment.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• Ensure support and equipment is available when needed, The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person, Older parents and families will not worry what happens when they can no longer provide support

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Equipment and home/vehicle modifications, Support for families and carers, Positive behaviour support and psychological services

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

I support thhe NDIS because people and the families of people who are disabled through no fault of their own are greatly disadvantaged throughout their lives. The normal things that people do are denied to them either because of lack of access or the cost of the equipment they need to enable them to do these things sometimes make people chose between medical support and food.

I would like to see this rectified. I would like to see people with disabilities and their families have an informed say in how they are supported.
