Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

I don’t really know what to put in here, because my husband is visually imparied, and can’t drive anymore, and I don’t drive at all. The main concern for us is, with our Country link bus service. It only goes up and back to Mudgee ( in the same day ) once a week. We can’t get it through to the powers that be, mainly the politicians , that we need it to run more frequantly, wether it be for Dr’s appointments, Dentiest, or even for shopping.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person,
• Minimising the number of times people have to tell their story in order to get support,
• Less red tape, with planning done locally by people who know their community

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Equipment and home/vehicle modifications,
• Support for families and carers,
• Accommodation options

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

We have to support it because our family members with these disabilitys are the only ones who know and understand the importance of being independent.
