Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

As carers and Parents are getting older it is very important that those with a disability can have ongoing support with access to independant living

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• Ensure support and equipment is available when needed,
• More opportunities to participate in the community,
• Older parents and families will not worry what happens when they can no longer provide support

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Life-skills,
• Support for families and carers,
• Accommodation options

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

In this region we have Kurrajong Waratah, a very proactive organisation providing a range of opportunities for all people with a disability. From early intervention service for children through to adult living, lifestyle and work skills. The introduction of a NDIS will enhance Kurrajong Waratah’s service to all thos with a disability
