Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed. The system as it stands does not currently work as it is reactive not proactive, basic equipment that would change lives and make people with disabilities more independent and better able to function within our society is difficult o access via funding , in many cases providing such would mean a disabled person can contribute more on every level ,financially ,socially to our society .

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• Ensure support and equipment is available when needed,
• The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person,
• People with disability/family will influence the types of support and services offered

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Therapy and allied health services,
• Education support (technology/services/equipment),
• Support for families and carers

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

I support the National Disability Insurance Scheme because I can see in my daughters case that with the appropriate timely support and equipment there will be nothing she will not achieve or be capable of, she will be able to contribute like another Australian .
