Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

I have worked with small children in my profession,and have the seen the need for more help to be given to some of the physically. mentally disabled children. Some parents have the money to receieve extra help, but others because of lack of finace leave the schools to try and cope and help the children as far as they can. I am now retired but have seen in the past that a well thought out disability scheme could haved helped these special children.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• People with a disability can choose the types of support to use,
• Better access to education and work opportunities,
• More rights for people with a disability,
• The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Equipment and home/vehicle modifications,
• Support for families and carers,
• Flexible in-home/outside home respite

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

I feel that all people no matter what their physical/ or mental abilities may be they should have the same opportunities in life available to them.
