Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

We haven’t had any support in regarding to respite, financial help with therapies and psycologic assitance for the whole family. We have been struggling financially and emotionally as our 4 year old autist son has high needs requirement. I can’t go back to work without any support.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person,
• Increased ability to coordinate services to suit the “whole” person/family, Older parents and families will not worry what happens when they can no longer provide support

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Therapy and allied health services,
• Support for families and carers,
• In-home care and domestic assistance

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

Because I believe every family deserves a better life regardless having a member with disability. The NDIS is happening because people are tired of not having any support for their loved ones.
