Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

because for 1, our daughter who sustained a brain injury through a mva at age 18, is not deemed eligible for disability services and support.

We can only get a little support from a locally run agency, which is mainly social support.

Because DSQ doesn’t think she is eligible for services and support, she is not able to realize her biggest dream: to live independantly at the age of 25.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• People with a disability can plan their lives and pursue their goals and dreams,
• The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person,
• Older parents and families will not worry what happens when they can no longer provide support

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Therapy and allied health services, Employment support, Accommodation options

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

Because there needs to be much more support to give people with a disability and their families the chance to live their life to their best ability. I’m hoping it will bring better support to the people outside the big cities of every state, so to the rural and regional areas.
