Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

I am absolutely delighted. After having my severe physical disability for sixty-four and a half years, I was informed on my sixty-fifth birthday that I was no longer disabled because I am aged. What a joke! A person should be eligible for the NDIS from the craddle to the grave. Vivienne Newton

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• Ensure support and equipment is available when needed,
• More opportunities to participate in the community,
• Removal of age barriers to services for children

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Equipment and home/vehicle modifications,
• In-home care and domestic assistance,
• Interpreters and other communication support

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

I am disappoint by the National Disability Insurance Scheme because it has an age cut-off momentarily which shall make me not eligible. I guess I shall have to go on struggling with not enough personal care and trying to save for a much needed electric wheelchair plus other vital equipment until I die. Hopefully, I shall have enough money left to purchase my coffin! Vivienne Newton
