Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

Having multiple sclerosis, I find it hard to find support I need to keep functioning. I still have a lot to offer the community and just need help to keep functioning. Instead of relying on people, I want to make a contribution and have a positive mark on society. I just need some basic help and services to do so.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• More opportunities to participate in the community,
• More employment of people with disability and less reliance on social welfare,
• People with a disability can plan their lives and pursue their goals and dreams

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Therapy and allied health services,
• Equipment and home/vehicle modifications,
• Case management, planning and coordination

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

So much is lost to everybody by not giving the support and assistance people with a disability need to give back to their community. A NDIS will mean people are not discarded. A civilised society wants nothing less
