Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

Having a son with Aspergers has been very challenging. Lack of services, support & qualified staff.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• Better access to mainstream support and services,
• Better access to education and work opportunities,
• Minimising the number of times people have to tell their story in order to get support

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Life-skills,
• Employment support,
• Case management, planning and coordination

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

Everyone deserves the right to become independent & make their own decisions. The NDIS will I hope make life easier for families, their carers & the community in general. In the end what an example Australia can make in looking after those who need it most.
