Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

We fall through the cracks. We are always told we are not elegible, as we do not have a pension card or health care card. My husband and I both work, myself parttime, and have trouble meeting expenses for day to day living costs because of my disabilities alone. My pharmacy account is about $1400.00 a month.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person,
• Minimising the number of times people have to tell their story in order to get support, Removal of age barriers to services for children

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Equipment and home/vehicle modifications, Education support (technology/services/equipment), In-home care and domestic assistance

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

My two children (now 20 and 17) both have autism, and myself (I have multiple disabilities) have always fallen through the cracks for assistance with anything, what we need the most is financial support to help with the cost of replacing laptops for the children and computer for me and some assistance with chemist account. But it seems that this type of assistance is not covered in the NDIS.
