Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

I have MS and there is no readily available assistance for myself or my wilfe in caring for the disabilities involved.. Regular expensive neurological asssessment is required as is a regime of medication. New treatments are slow to be recognised . Many socio’medical effects of the disease are not recognised by the NHS

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• Ensure support and equipment is available when needed,
• The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person,
• Older parents and families will not worry what happens when they can no longer provide support

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Therapy and allied health services,
• Support for families and carers,
• Case management, planning and coordination

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

It would seem a fair and decent thing that a society as a whole support its less able members in whatever ways it can The NDIS is a step along this path and a responsible compassionate use of piblicunds.
