Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

Numerous amounts of red tape required to obtain any type of help/aid/diagnosis which require infinite patience & lead to a LOT of frustration. My son was physically putting himself in harm’s way & all the solutions I suggested couldn’t be done due to “rights of the child” & I felt not only helpless but very concerned (as in sick with worry) which led me to have to undergo counselling.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• Better access to mainstream support and services,
• Better access to education and work opportunities,
• More rights for people with a disability

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Education support (technology/services/equipment),
• Employment support,
• Support for families and carers

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

It’s been a long time coming, the parents/carers of disabled people have enough of a burden on then as it is & need all the help, support & UNDERSTANDING they can get.
