Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

It is very hard to be the case manager for your child A lot of time can be spent chasing different therapies, referrals and specialist visits in the early years when professional guidance could help narrow the field and help direct the parents- I found Early Intervention Services good for this but they had limited resources to help

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

-Better access to mainstream support and services, -Better access to education and work opportunities, -Older parents and families will not worry what happens when they can no longer provide support

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

-Therapy and allied health services, -Education support (technology/services/equipment), -Support for families and carers

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

All Australians and their families deserve an equal playing field in terms of how they live their lives- What I mean by this is that families with a disabled person should not be financially or emotionally disadvantaged by the fact that they have this person within their family group
