Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

It currently does not provide me with an individual choice of services. It also limits me to what kind of purchases I am entitled to or none at all. With the NDIS, we hope it allows us to choose the best type of service, the best type of equipment and supplies and the most appropriate access to communication.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• Better access to education and work opportunities,
• People with a disability can plan their lives and pursue their goals and dreams,
• The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Education support (technology/services/equipment),
• Case management, planning and coordination,
• Interpreters and other communication support

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

This is long overdue. Australia is wealthy country and every person with a disability have the right to access services they choose from, the right to education with appropriate support and services, the right to participate in everyday life, the right to live independently with support when needed and the right to work. For so long, we have been left out and it is time to give people with disability the entitlements they rightly deserve. We are able to contribute to Australian society with wealth, knowledge and success.
