Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed. The system as it stands is a one size fits all. Autism has many aspects to it , its a spectrum. My daughter is autistic and home schooled. This alone is complicated. We need to be able to access things when she needs them and how she needs them . It would be good not to have to fill in the same form every time she needs something . Last time I checked autism is a permanent disability but I have to keep filling in the same form . Not only is filling a form time taking but frustrating because you then have to get an appointment to fill in the forms with the family member who has the disability and is not able to sit in a room for longer than five minutes without getting bored and begin getting anxious .

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person,
• Less red tape, with planning done locally by people who know their community,
• Older parents and families will not worry what happens when they can no longer provide support

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Equipment and home/vehicle modifications, Support for families and carers,
• Flexible in-home/outside home respite

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

It will help us help our family members .
