Submission to the Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012

From: To: Community Affairs, Committee (SEN); Subject: Submission to the Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012 Date: Wednesday, 9 January 2013 3:18:46 PM

Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

The disability System lets me down from the aspect that at the time of my life when every possible resource needed by me, was hard to obtain. Also very expensive. There are so many things that as a disabled person, are out of your reach mainly due to finances. Hospital waiting times to see a psychiatrist or psychologist, physiotherapist or occupational therapist are just beyond the joke. Therefore unless you have disposable cash (impossible on a Disibilty pension) you have to battle through alone. How would you feel? Broken Body, Broken Mind all in the space of 24 hours? Then left to bumble through it alone.

I am never ever going to be independant again and rely totally on the carers I have 3 times a day to enable me to live in a “normal” fashion. This should not be left to chance because of funding, it is a basic human right!

I support the NDIS and suggest that the whole nation gets behind this urgently needed cause.

Thank You Lisa Monaghan

Regards,

Ms Lisa Monaghan
