Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
I do not have direct family impact but have seen the real hardship and difficulty faced by aging parent of a child with disability both financial and emotional. A lot of these carers have lost a chance of a proper life. It is a real tragedy for so many.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
e Ensure support and equipment is available when needed,
e The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person, e Older parents and families will not worry what happens when they can no longer provide support
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are: e Education support (technology/services/equipment), e Support for families and carers, e Flexible in-home/outside home respite
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
This has been an area that has not been adequatley funded. People can be simplly left to fend for them selves fighting to receive services or some means of assistance. I can’t beleive what some people have had to manage with.
