Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill 2012.

The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.

The waiting lists are too long even if elidgible, it’s too rigid in telling us what is available rather than the other way around. It’s unfair and completely lopsided and heavysided with Bureaucrats.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:

• The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person,
• Less red tape, with planning done locally by people who know their community,
• People with disability/family will influence the types of support and services offered

The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:

• Equipment and home/vehicle modifications, Employment support, Recreation and community access

I support the introduction of the NDIS.

I want the NDIS so that Individuals and families who want and are able can have more say and control in living their lives to the fullest - the NDIS will give rise to choice and make services more accountable. THe NDIS should also mean the incrediable lengthy delays for equipement and technology should cease.
