Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing
Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
I do not, nor do any of my family, have a disability but I strongly believe that those who do, do not get enough support financially to help with the high costs involved with care, treatment, emotional and physical strain that disability causes.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person, Removal of age barriers to services for children, Older parents and families will not worry what happens when they can no longer provide support
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Support for families and carers, Flexible in-home/outside home respite, Crisis and emergency support
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
Disabled people need a lot more care, equipment, support for every day living than those without a disability. They and those who care for them should not have to be constantly in fear of not being able to afford the necessities which make their lives a little better.
