Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
At the moment I am eligible for support from a disability employment agency. I am finding that this is quite limited in the amount of time they have to spend with you. I would appreciate the services of someone who could assist me with a good vocational options advice service. Then technical support to study from home via the internet - the technology required. I am quite high-functioning and I dont like to complain but I think that services could be improved - I havent had any luck with getting any job interviews or education/training options which are suitable.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Better access to education and work opportunities, More employment of people with disability and less reliance on social welfare
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Education support (technology/services/equipment), Case management, planning and coordination, Positive behaviour support and psychological services
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
I dont profess to understand the scheme. I believe that I may be overloading the system as there is such a lot of need from people who have more needs than me. I believe that helping more people get active and get the services they need the better off our society will be. Wasting all that potential out there is such a shame. Developed societies like ours should be able to organize much better services.
