Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
there is too much red tape and form filling. Each service needs to be addressed separately and even some services such as respite are not coordinated and I need to approach as amny as 4 organisations to obtain respite which is often the same carer! also although my daughter would qualify for some services she doesnt really ned them as much as others but that isnt really taken into account. if she doesnt use it she loses it. Also we had a case worker when I applied for outisde home respite but once that was organised then I lost her.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
People with a disability can choose the types of support to use, The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person, Minimising the number of times people have to tell their story in order to get support
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Support for families and carers, Flexible in-home/outside home respite, Case management, planning and coordination
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
Is is a coordinatd approach to disability services and will ensure all disabled people will receive the services and funding they need and are entitled to.
