Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing
Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
As my daughter is back at University her problem is getting access to books to complete her studies.
They have to ordered from Overseas, and they have to be in electronic format.
She has now been waiting for this for 8 weeks.
Not really good enough, as sighted people have this in the printed form at their disposal.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Ensure support and equipment is available when needed, More employment of people with disability and less reliance on social welfare, People with a disability can plan their lives and pursue their goals and dreams
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Life-skills, Employment support, Support for families and carers
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
Because our daughter is visually impaired, and has to rely on braille equipment,
e,g. electronic equipment which is very expensive.
