Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
it is too complicated and time-consuming to access services and to get help to find out what equipment would be most suitable for the disabled person and his/her carer and then get financial assistance.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Ensure support and equipment is available when needed, The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person, Increased ability to coordinate services to suit the “whole” person/family
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Equipment and home/vehicle modifications, Support for families and carers, In home care and domestic assistance
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
Because I feel that more should be done for disabled people than is currently done. The services are mostly there, but are difficult to access and waiting periods for assistance are far too long and the process to access them are often difficult and timeconsuming. Time that the caring often does not have due to the workload at home. Disabled people and their carers often end up on the outskirts of society and feel isolated.
