Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
There is no access to qualified AND experienced health care workers. On the rare occasion i do gain access to someone who can help they are transfered before my problems are resolved and im promised a replacement that never arrives so the application (begging) for help starts all over again……. this patchy waiting forever service is no way to live, for me or my carer…. its happened too many times and its soul crushing. I cannot access education or employment until my acute medical issues are dealt with. Im not looking for help to be or do anything special or expensive or complex, i just want to live 2 weeks in a row without getting a pressure sore………………….I
DONT NEED BUCKETLOADS OF RESPITE CARE OR SOMEONE TO DO MY
DISHES,I NEED SPECIALIST MEDICAL ADVICE AND EQUIPMENT!!!!!! Under the current system all the assistance i can access is respite care and help with light housework that i can do myself! Of which i do not accept because i know these services are vital to so many families in the community but some agencies are very pushy about getting me to sign up and accept these services anyway but i refuse, i do not need them! This IS NOT a support system!
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Ensure support and equipment is available when needed, People with a disability can choose the types of support to use, Better access to mainstream support and services, People with a disability can plan their lives and pursue their goals and dreams, The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person, Increased ability to coordinate services to suit the “whole” person/family, Access to reliable information about support options, People with disability/family will influence the types of support and services offered
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Therapy and allied health services, Equipment and home/vehicle modifications, Support for families and carers, Case management, planning and coordination, Crisis and emergency support
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
Because the current system is really broken and we need to change it if we ever want to realise an all inclusive Australia.
