Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
People who have a disability need the kind of support which gives them a chance to live their life with as much dignity as possible. Many are not presently able to reach their potential as access to services and equipment needed is limited and costly.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Ensure support and equipment is available when needed, Better access to education and work opportunities, More opportunities to participate in the community
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Therapy and allied health services, Education support (technology/services/equipment), Employment support
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
The NDIS would make an appreciable difference to the Australians who have skills and potential, which could be realised with the implementation of such a humane scheme to help overcome the handicaps which people with disabilities incur.
