Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
I am an advisory teacher who works at the grass roots with students with disabilities and their families. I see and feel their frustration and that of those who support them in trying to obtain resources which would simply give them equitable access to curriculum and basic lifestyle amenities.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Ensure support and equipment is available when needed, Better access to education and work opportunities, Removal of age barriers to services for children
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Therapy and allied health services, Crisis and emergency support, Interpreters and other communication support
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
I believe that most Australians support the concept, as I do, of helping and supporting the most vulnerable and disadvantaged members of the community and are willing to contribute to ensure that all Australians have a satisfactory quality of life, especially when external insult or injury has caused them to become ‘disabled’ in terms of access to family, community, education etc. Fair go for all…
