Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing
Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
I do have direct responsibility for a person with a disabiity, but I do have a great nephew who has an intellectual disability and I know the pressusre that it has been on his family and his extended family.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Better access to mainstream support and services, Better access to education and work opportunities, More opportunities to participate in the community
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Life-skills, Employment support, Accommodation options
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
I suppor this scheme, because people with disabilities have an enormous nuber of obstacles and difficulties to overcome through no fault of their own. I am grateful that I am so far well, and feel a deep sympathy for those who are handicapped. I have a moral responsibiiy to do whatever I can to assist.
