Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
Not a family member, however I do work in the disability sector and see the huge inequity which exists for people who have a disability. I aslo see the huge waste of resources spent trying to prioritise the limited funds available.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Ensure support and equipment is available when needed, More opportunities to participate in the community, The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Therapy and allied health services, Flexible in-home/outside home respite, Case management, planning and coordination
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
To ensure equitable access to services for those who need them.
To ensure all members of community have the ability and opportunity to participate and contribute.
Because it will provide security to all Australians with or without disability in the event that they, there family or friends require support now or in the future due to a congential or acquired disability, whatever the cause.
Because currently many people who have a disability have skills and attributes which they are unable to share due to technical issues preventing inclusion such as transport, appropriate support or communication assistance.
Because as a civilised society we have an obligation to ensure all members of society are included, involved and supported to contribute and our current system does not support this equitably.
