Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
Our daughter is 29 years old and was finally diagnosed with an intelluctual disability when she was eight years old. has been on a disability pension and will always be. My husband and I have always done everything to ensure has a wonderful life. She attended Macedon Ranges Specialist School and now attends Distinctive options at Sunbury.
We have probably been wrong but we have never asked for respite or extra help and now we find ourselves getting older and it is a worry. We used to get carers pension/allowance then the criteria changed. I work full time to support my family iam turning 60 and my husband who is 63 has just left work so we can devote more time to and her needs, again we are applying for carer’s pension or allowance. My wage is deemed to be to high which is a joke as I am now supporting my husband and our son who suffers from depression and has been unable to work.
We get by but we are so worried about the future of our dear girl and it always falls on deaf ears, oh for a goverment or public officials that really care.
Plese help the many many people out there like us who need help and understanding to care for these wonderful special people.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
More employment of people with disability and less reliance on social welfare, More rights for people with a disability, Older parents and families will not worry what happens when they can no longer provide support
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Life-skills, Support for families and carers, Crisis and emergency support
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
We suscribe to all forms of insurance and there is no greater insurance than the welfare of you own child.
