Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
Lack of flexiblity and innovation with current system mainly influnced by the DHS Packages equal budget of DHS not the needs of families NFP servcies expertise and knoweldge often over looked and or disregarded The tendering is not transparent and or fair. Case managers influence families rather than allowing services to present their service and quote in a professional no biased environment State government housing contracts are only issued to state or national serivces that lack local knowledge and or respect ending with building that are not suitable in location or style to adhere to environment elements.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Minimising the number of times people have to tell their story in order to get support, Less red tape, with planning done locally by people who know their community, Access to reliable information about support options
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Equipment and home/vehicle modifications, Accommodation options, Crisis and emergency support
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
Change is needed and long over due. While I have reservations that there will be enough funds to go around and concerned that the same funds will be regurgitated with little benefit - this is a big step in the right direction if implemented correctly
