Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
Confusion about services and the amount of time it takes to seek guidance.
Information is not clear for some individuals to follow through on…
Below is a list of tick boxes….there is no one aspect that is less or more important. Being asked to only tick three is very difficult!!! Every detail requires addressing, a holistic person centered approach along with connections with services and community.
I want to tick every box!
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
People with a disability can choose the types of support to use, The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person, Less red tape, with planning done locally by people who know their community
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Equipment and home/vehicle modifications, Employment support, Case management, planning and coordination
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
So people can have choices, independence and improved services. I can see services are working on organisational change in aims on improving as service providers now that it will be user choice. It promotes improved quality of services for people with disability.
Bring inclusiveness and choice at the forefront of people’s awareness. More in the media - change perceptions of people with disability within the community. Gives them more bargaining power.
