Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
The current disability system does not allow adequate funding for our three children with multiple and complex needs. The system is inflexible and offers supports which are not of benefit to our family, however cannot offer the services so desperately needed. The red tape within departments has often left me, the carer, in tears of frustration.
The current systems fails my children and severely impacts their quality of life by not meeting their needs and not supporting my needs as a carer.
The inflexibility of the system and lack of choice available to families and carers leaves me feeling unappreciated and disrespected as a carer.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Ensure support and equipment is available when needed, People with a disability can plan their lives and pursue their goals and dreams
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Equipment and home/vehicle modifications, Support for families and carers, In home care and domestic assistance
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
I support the ndis to bring choice, freedom and most importantly security to people with a disability and their family.
