Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
I have 3 kids ALL have fragile x syndrome… We have CONSTANT ISSUES with getting affordable services that SUIT OUR NEEDS… We have trouble staying housed in the area my kids access their services and school, we have been on the public housing waiting list for 11 years! We have moved houses 12 times in the 11 years we have been waiting, I was homeless twice and unable to take my DISABLED KIDS to a refuge to access early housing so we were left homeless! There is not enough funding for kids born with disabilities PERIOD! START
HELPING WITH FUNDING FOR SERVICES AND EQUIPMENT AND HOUSING… BUT
ALSO DON’T MAKE IT SO HARD TO ACTUALLY ACCESS IT! Its not easy jumping threw hoops of fire to try and get help to then b knocked back due to lack of funding or my location is not within the area an organisation services etc etc etc… Plus what happens when I die? Where does my son go? Into an OLD AGE nursing home at the age of 40? Or maybe 20, who’s to say I don’t die young? What happen s to him?! We need some sort of nursing homes that can
accommodate to ALL YOUNG PPL WITH HIGH NEEDS! NOT JUST WHACK EM IN
WITH THE ELDERLY!
THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT HELP FOREIGN COUNTRIES AND HOUSE
FOREIGN PPL BEFORE THEY TAKE CARE OF THEIR OWN?! THE GOVERNMENT
PAYS REFUGEES ($56000 PER YEAR) $40000 MORE ANNUALLY TO REFUGEES
THAN TO THE ELDERLY ON A MINIMAL $16000 PER YEAR! WTF?! START
HELPING THE AUSTRALIAN PPL FIRST, BEING IT IS AUSTRALIAN PPLS TAX
MONEY BEING SPENT! THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT IS AUSTRALIAS
GREATEST SHAME….
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Ensure support and equipment is available when needed, More employment of people with disability and less reliance on social welfare, Older parents and families will not worry what happens when they can no longer provide support
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Equipment and home/vehicle modifications, Support for families and carers, Accommodation options
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
I hope that the NDIS is THE ANSWER to our failing government systems… We need change, we need support, we need money but mostly, WE NEED HELP! PLEASE!
THIS IS THE ONLY OPPORTUNITY THAT WE’VE GOT! IF THIS FAILS, WE ARE IN
