Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
Good morning,
This is not for me personally, however a colleague that I work with has a disability and has to fight his way from his driver’s door, holding onto the car, to the back where he then has to lift his wheelchair out of the boot of his vehicle. This can take 10 minutes or more and it exhausts him.
He works three days a week and could very well sit at home on the Disability pension. He deserves more assistance like taxi fares to and from works or funds to place a wheelchair lift on his vehicle and there is just no funding to assist.

The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Ensure support and equipment is available when needed, The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person, People with disability/family will influence the types of support and services offered
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Equipment and home/vehicle modifications, Recreation and community access, Support for families and carers
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
It gives a voice to those who have no voice.
