Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
When i was horribly ill there was still a proccess with centrelink which may it very difficult to get anywhere in regards to allowances. If a centrelink worker has not had any illness, they really don’t know what a sick person is going through and having to go into a place like that and trying to explain situations like what you are going through is next to impossible. It’s a communication problem. you feel like you are just a number and it is very frustrating. The evaluation proccess is out of whack also. Even though I was suffering from an illness I still was better off getting a job. Less stress on my illness. I’m still suffering but working a 60+ hour f/n cause thats the only way i can survive.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Better access to mainstream support and services, People with a disability can plan their lives and pursue their goals and dreams, Minimising the number of times people have to tell their story in order to get support
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Therapy and allied health services, Employment support, Positive behaviour support and psychological services
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
I think most people support the NDIS. I support it because the number of disability cases are increasing. I’m all for natural therapy and because most health insurance companys do not have natural therapy in their list of health services i sure hope NDIS is considering this service.
