Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
There is an age barrier to certain services as my daughter isn’t five yet for nappies service as is quadriplegic, no exceptions will be made. Also Canberra doesn’t have services which address feeding pumps tubes etc for free, we pay up to $400 a month of feeding equipment not including feed. In Nsw equipment is supplie free with additional stuff costing. So that effects us. My daughters health is so fragile we can never find respite willing to look after her and tandem always send people without first aid certificates so we haven’t had respite for two years. I’m sure there are many more issues but that’s a start
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Removal of age barriers to services for children
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Support for families and carers
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
It’s our voice and it’s something that has needed to happen r a long time to ensure our children are safe and have equality if something happens to us the career
