Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
At the moment is is very difficult to get any support and equipment necessary when needed eg hand rails, paths & ramp accesss to housing, cooling and heating assistance (critical for people with MS and vehicle modifications. Very little if any support for carers, my wife has had to give up work to assist and care for me. I have MS
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Ensure support and equipment is available when needed, Increased ability to coordinate services to suit the “whole” person/family, People with disability/family will influence the types of support and services offered
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Therapy and allied health services, Equipment and home/vehicle modifications, Support for families and carers
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
NDIS will allow disabled people to gain support and assistance both finacially and personally which has in the past has been virtually up to the indervidual. Disablities are hard enough to cope with with out all the added pressures of finance & support. I am a disabled person with MS and still working full time from home and because I am working full time there is very little if any assistance given in any way ( I am sure that when the NDIS is approved this will may life a little more bareable for all disabledpeople thrugh out Australia
