Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
I do not require any services for disability but I see the enormous struggles of families trying to cope with disability. The system is archaic and does not equally meet the needs of families dealing with the disadvantage.
Their livelihoods are changed for ever, their standards of living, their dreams for their children/family member are lost and they have few people or organisations to turn to.
A new system of fairness, generosity and compassion needs to be put in place.
Their voices must be heard and we must take action.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Ensure support and equipment is available when needed, More opportunities to participate in the community, More rights for people with a disability
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Therapy and allied health services, Life-skills, Support for families and carers
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
As a society it is crucial we care for everyone and do not marginalise any disadvantaged group. Those with a disability have to deal with the challenges and distress of the disability. They and their families should not then suffer any form of disadvantage from the Government of Australia, through limited access to funding, education and support.
These are not just black words on a white page - these words do little justice to express the most profound stories of sadness, pain, exhaustion, lost dreams, suffering and depression, not just for the person with the disability but for those who struggle to care for them.
Overall, to measure the level of goodwill and liveability in any country we need to look at how our less advantaged people are treated.
LETS GIVE THESE FELLOW CITIZENS A BRIGHTNESS OF FUTURE. They will
return the gift in countless and immeasurable ways.
How proud and compassionate a Nation we will be, when we can say the NDIS is in place!
