Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
I care full time for my disabled brother and even though i get disability support funding, finding the people to actually fill the jobs is a different story. Everyone considers themselves to good to taking on the employment role of carer, all the funding in the world won’t change this fact.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Ensure support and equipment is available when needed, The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person, Minimising the number of times people have to tell their story in order to get support
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Equipment and home/vehicle modifications, Recreation and community access, Support for families and carers
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
I am the second generation in my family to take on the full time care of my disabled brother. First my parents took care of him full time and all my siblings and my self were all bought up knowing that one day we would have to take on that responsibility. It would be nice if i don’t have to raise my son the same way, rather him being able to access support from outside the family home to help with the care of his uncle, once both my husband and myself have departed this world.
