Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
I have an Autistic grandchild and his parents are always outlaying money to doctors and professionals. He is 5 in March 2013 and still doesn’t talk and otherstand the basic things,ie: his birthday, Easter and Christmas. More help and research is needed and parents need more monetary help to pay the excessive medical bills. He will require care for the rest of his life. When they are 6 years old, I believe the surport becomes less whereas it should become higher.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Ensure support and equipment is available when needed, The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person, Removal of age barriers to services for children
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Life-skills, Support for families and carers, In-home care and domestic assistance
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
Because it is an essential scheme and hopefully it will become a reality.
