Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
Poor access and limited educational facilities in regional areas. There is no state run facility that specializes in Autism. Autism Qld has no centre in Townsville don’t even think about help if you live anywhere in the greater Townsville area.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Better access to mainstream support and services, The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person, Older parents and families will not worry what happens when they can no longer provide support
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Support for families and carers, Flexible in-home/outside home respite, Positive behaviour support and psychological services
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
Hopefully it will allow my son to have a brighter future. He needs to be supported and assisted. To have explanations for reasons why different types of behaviour are called for at different times. He needs help to guide his behaviour all through his day he needs to be supervised at lunch breaks so he is not bullied or bullying. These are just a couple of points that give me a reason to support the NDIS. The NDIS is a way that the disabled can be looked after for the entire time they are disabled and to give them a chance to be active members of the community, remove some of the stigma associated with disability, and get them working and so remove some of the financial burden that disability creates.
