Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
The Disability system does not work for me and my family because it is always the case we are told when reaching out for support or help is that “we are under staffed or you are still on the waiting list after years of waiting for services. Then there is price’s on equipment and services which only the rich and wealthy can afford and not family’s living of disability pensions and carer pensions can afford. We family’s with kids that have disabilities are struggling. it is touch for us.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Better access to mainstream support and services, More rights for people with a disability, Older parents and families will not worry what happens when they can no longer provide support
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Therapy and allied health services, Education support (technology/services/equipment), Life-skills
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
I support the NDIS because I believe it brings hope to families like us who have three members out of 5 with disability. We need help and we need it badly.
